William F. Bopp Papers

Overview

This collection includes a 20-page typescript personal narrative of William Bopp’s experiences in World War II. Written in 1990, Bopp recounts his beginnings and training with the military, his experiences overseas in Europe during the war, through his discharge in 1945 and return home.

Also included is a copy of Bopp’s honorable discharge certificate from 1945, and a copy of the “Company A Newsletter” from September 1991 for which Bopp authored the main text.

This collection consists of one scholarly paper, "War Crimes at Fukuoka, 1945," (1995) (author unknown); a newspaper clipping from The Palm Beach Post, dated July 23, 1998, regarding still-living survivors of the Normandy invasion; and copies of three documents (General Orders from Patton, Presidential Citation from Eisenhower, and poem by Allan W. Possel).

The book housed in this collection is composed of transcriptions of letters written between Private Clifford E. Keenan and his immediate family from 1942 to 1944. Editor Hugh T. Keenan (Clifford E.
